Our first championships of 2011 will be the 'National Kumite & Kata Championships' on 3rd April to be held at the EIS in Sheffield.

Categories for all ages and Red belt upwards. Entry details will be able to be downloaded off the SKU website soon.

Gasshuku 2011

This years Gasshuku will be held from the 2nd June till 9th June in Majorca.

The week long course is for all ages and grades. Under 18 year olds must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All aspects of Shukokai Karate training are covered during the week and there is an end of week Dan grading for those who are eligible. The Gasshuku is open to families and friends who are non trainers and are attending simply as a holiday.

The 2011 Gasshuku will be held from 2nd to 9th June at the Aparthotel Club Cala Romani in Majorca.

Flights are from Manchester or Leeds 2nd June with Jet 2 Returning on 9th June

The All Inclusive holiday cost including transfers is £355 plus £36 baggage = £391 per person, prices may vary depending on flight costs

There is a training fee for those taking part in the Gasshuku of £70 per person making the total cost:

Gasshuku participants £355 + £36 + £70 = £461

Non trainers do not pay the £70 so its £355 plus £36 = £391

Please note the above prices are valid at 24th November 2010 and may vary after that date due to any increases in flight prices

A £40 per person deposit is all that is needed to reserve your place on Gasshuku 2011

Referees Training and First Aid Course

For any students aged 18 years and over who wish to learn how to be a Kata or Kumite Judge / Referee then there is a course on Sunday 20th March in Rochdale. See the Referees page for more details and an application form.

Sunday 13th March is the date for the SKU first aid course. If you wish to rene w or gain a first aid qualification then please see the page on the website and get in touch with Sensei Dan Smethurst.

Dan Grading

The first Dan Grading of the year takes place on Sunday 15th May the the EIS in Sheffield.

Application forms are on the website to download.

On the Dan grading page on the website there are 2 lists - provisional and confirmed

provisional is for the people who have stated that they wish to attempt the grading but not paid or sent in application forms and confirmed for those that have paid and sent in the application form.

World Union of Karate Federations - WUKF

The SKU are members of the World Union of Karate Federations (WUKF) and SKU members can compete in WUKF World and European Championships via the SKU. If you want to have a go at becoming a European and World champion in 2011 there are two events in Europe you can enter. Contact Sensei Ilyas for details of how you can enter and see the squad page of the SKU website for more information

17th October 2010 - COMPETITION SUCCESS!!

Northwich Shukokai entered several club members into the Shukokai Karate Union open championships which consisted of both SKU clubs but clubs from all around the UK. The standard of Kata and kumite was very high meaning the competion was tough. The competition started at 10 am and finished at 8pm.....a long yet very rewarding day. Northwich Shukokai came away with the following results:

Our last championships of 2010 is 'The British Open' on Sunday 17th October which is to be held at the EIS in Sheffield.

Entry forms are on the SKU website to download and entry is via your club instructor.

Bring all the family down for support, as entry is FREE TO ALL SPECTATORS.

It promises to be a spectacular event and a number of visitors from the UK and abroad have expressed an interest in attending.

Open to green belt and above - for anyone who wishes to improve their kumite skills

Kata Training Course

Open to brown & black belts who wish to improve thier kata skills. Seipai kata & bunkai will be taught. It is not necessary to know the kata in advance as it will be taught in detail so it can be learnt on the day by first timers. Those who already know it will be able to fine tune their performance and really get to grips with the bunkai.

For all brown & black belts who are preparing for their Dan gradings

The SKU had a squad attending the FEKO Cadets and Seniors national Championships in Nottingham on Sunday 19th September and the following gained medals:

26th April SKU E News from The Cheif Instructor Stan Knighton 9th Dan

SKU e-News

Fantastic turn out for Sundays Instructors course at EIS Sheffield. Over 40 instructors attended and the two hour course with Sensei Stan Knighton covered basics, stance training, pad-work, pairs kata training with Bassai dai and Kururunfa, Hokei Kumite and an 'old style' shukokai self-defence combination. Chief referee Sensei Damien McLaughlin then gave a seminar on the rules for the new team rotation kumite event followed by a practical where all the instructors formed teams to practice the rules.

The course was followed by the 41st AGM. Sensei Ken Gee retired as SKU Gen Sec at this years AGM after 31 years in the position and was given a huge round of applause after being thanked by the Chairman for his 31 year service. Sensei Craig Murphy has now taken over as SKU Gen Sec and the executive committee now consists of:
